Honda has revealed its new HR-V small SUV and the new model will go on sale in time for the September plate-change this year.

From launch, a 120hp 1.6-litre diesel and a 1.5-litre 130hp petrol will be available. Efficiency figures have not been announced yet, but in the Civic the diesel unit emits 94g/km of CO2 and returns 78.5mpg.

Honda claims the HR-V has class-leading interior space. It said it has "brought the virtues of an MPV into the crossover segment for the first time". Honda said the boot offers 453 litres of carrying capacity with the seats in use and 1026 litres with the seats down.

The HR-V is equipped with a seven-inch touchscreen on trim levels above the entry level, and a five-inch touchscreen on the entry level model.

The HR-V features an infortainment system which can link with Android smartphones like the firm's CR-V. The system offers web browsing, real-time traffic, news, satellite navigation and weather information. It also displays vehicle information such as the trip meter, fuel economy and journey time.

Other than the base model, all trim levels will be fitted with Honda's Driver Assist System as standard. The pack includes intelligent speed assist, city brake active assist, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition and a high beam support system.
