Hyundai has revealed a crossover version of its i20 supermini ahead of its arrival in the UK early next year.

Dubbed the i20 Active, the model offers 20mm more ground clearance than the five-door i20, with the seating position also raised to give superior visibility.

Visually, the Active adds skid plates to front and rear and cladding on the wheel arches to differentiate it from its standard hatchback sibling.

UK pricing and specifications will be confirmed nearer to the vehicle's on-sale date.

Meanwhile, the Korean car maker is adding a three-cylinder 1.0-litre petrol engine to the i20 range. Available with two power outputs - 100hp and 120hp - Hyundai said the new engine has been tuned for maximum fuel efficiency.
