Mercedes-Benz has revealed its second-generation GLC ahead of its UK on sale date of October. Prices start from £34,950 for the 220 diesel model.

Previously known as the GLK, the GLC will be offered with two engines from launch in the UK - a 2.2-litre diesel and two 2.5-litre diesel models.

The firm will offer 60g/km plug-in hybrid, however it is not coming to the UK from launch. Mercedes said it is still working out whether or not it will come to the UK in the future.

The plug-in is powered by same 3.0-litre petrol that features in its S500 plug-in hybrid and C350e models. In the GLC, the engine produces 211hp, emits 60g/km of CO2 and offers up to 21 miles in its EV mode.

The 220d diesel produces 170hp, returns 56mpg and emits 129g/km of CO2, while the larger 250d engine produces 204hp, returns the same CO2 and mpg figures.

The larger engine is priced from £36,105.

All engines are mated to the firm's 4Matic four-wheel drive system and a nine-speed automatic gearbox, while the car is 118mm longer than the outgoing model.

Three trim levels - SE, Sport and AMG line - are offered. SE line models come with an automatic tailgate, reversing camera and DAB radio as standard, while Sport models adds the firm's active parking assist feature, a Garmin sat-nav and is finished in a black ash wood trim.

AMG-line models adds an AMG steering wheel, lowered sports suspension and AMG bodystyling options.

"The new GLC represents a further, systematic step in the implementation of our SUV philosophy. It combines the ultimate in driving comfort with a sporty touch, impresses on the road and more than ever off it as well," said Thomas Weber, member of Daimler responsible for group research and Mercedes-Benz cars development.
