Fleet leads new car registrations in November

Date: 04 December 2015   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

New fleet car registrations increased by 8.7% in November according to the latest Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders data.

According to the SMMT's figures, 94,462 cars were registered to fleet users last month, compared with 86,903 units in November 2014.

Year-to-date fleet sales meanwhile are up by 11.6%, year-on-year with 1,214,563 cars registered in the first 11 months of the year.

Overall, 178,876 cars were registered in the month, an increase of 3.8% over November 2014's figure, while the market has seen 6.2% growth to 2,453,426 units year-to-date.

Petrol and diesel registrations increased by 3.8% and 3.6% respectively, while alternative-fuel vehicle registrations increased by 8.6%.

Meanwhile, as the fall-out from the emissions scandal continues, Volkswagen car registrations were down by 19.99% in November, while sister brands Seat, Skoda and Audi also experienced sales falls of 4.4% to 23.8%.

Once again, the Ford Fiesta topped the best-selling list in November, with 7826 registrations.

"November's figures come as a reminder of the strength of the UK car market, as low interest rates and competitive finance deals continue to attract consumers to new car ownership," said Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive.

"We have been expecting a levelling-off in demand for some time now - a development that is being realised following an unprecedented three-and-a-half years of non-stop growth."
