Geneva motor show 2015: Top five facelifts

Date: 05 March 2015

Paul Barker, Tom Seymour and Tristan Young take a look at the top five facelifts revealed in Switzerland.

1 BMW 1 Series M 204311. BMW 1-series

The 1-series gains BMW's latest styling both at the front and rear, bringing it in line with the 2-series sister car. The interior from the 2-series is also acquired.

Why is it interesting?

The 1-series is BMW's second biggest fleet volume seller after 3-series. The  facelift gets new engines, making the model more efficient and in many cases quicker too. The 116 ED now has a CO2 figure of 89g/km and a 83.1mpg official fuel figure. The 116hp 1.5-litre engine in this car is also capable on 0-60mph in 10.4 seconds.

When is it on sale?

28 March 2015.

Pricing starts at £20,775 for the 118i petrol, while the 116d costs from £21,710.

2 Hyundai I302. Hyundai i30

The i30 lost a lot of ground in the fleet market last year, dropping 13 places to become the UK's 36th most popular corporate model. The facelift freshens up the car's design and interest levels.

Why is it interesting?

Hyundai has revised the engine line-up and added a new seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The 110hp 1.6-litre engine has emissions of 94g/km without the auto, and 109g/km with it. Hyundai has also replaced its entry-level Classic trim with an S model that features keyless entry, USB and aux connections, Bluetooth connectivity with steering wheel remote control, and air-conditioning as standard.

When is it on sale?

March 2015.

Hyundai has also added an i30 Turbo version, which is fitted with a 186hp 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine.

3 Peugeot 208 204163. Peugeot 208

The revised version of Peugeot's successful supermini is given a mild refresh, with new grille, more connectivity and improved engines.

Why is it interesting?

The 208 now gets down to what Peugeot describes as a best-in-class 79g/km for emissions, although that overlooks the hybrid Toyota Yaris at 74g/km.

When is it on sale?

June 2015.

The 208 will join its larger 308, 508 and RCZ siblings in having a GT-line specification when the revised model goes on sale this summer. GT-line was devised to offer the styling of the sportier trims but with the more efficient engines.

4 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque MY 2016 202904. Range Rover Evoque

Range Rover has facelifted its popular Evoque, but the big news is that the model will get Jaguar Land Rover's new Euro6 four-cylinder 2.0-litre Ingenium turbodiesel engine.

Why is it interesting?

The new 168hp diesel has emissions of just 109g/km on the two-wheel drive ED4 model. It's an impressive cut from the previous 133g/km diesel and means the brand will be able to compete on running costs with low-CO2 models from Audi, BMW and Mercedes. Fleets will also be able to spec a more powerful 178hp 125g/km diesel engine that is still below the key 130g/km level.

When is it on sale?

September 2015.

Design changes are fairly subtle on the Evoque facelift, but include a new front bumper, two new grille designs, all-LED headlamps, and three new alloy wheel designs. The suspension set-up has also been tweaked due to the lighter Ingenium engines. In other news, Land Rover has confirmed that a convertible Evoque will go on sale in 2016.

5 Toyota Auris 203715. Toyota Auris

Toyota's small family hatchback gains new front and rear lights, a better interior and a revised engine line-up.

Why is it interesting?

While the visible changes may be small, the under-bonnet upgrades are more significant. Toyota has brought in a new 110hp 1.6 diesel capable of 104g/km and 68.9mpg. The 89hp 1.4 diesel is substantially revised, which improves the CO2 figure to 89g/km and the fuel figure to 83.1mpg.

When is it on sale?

Mid-2015.

The 1.8-litre petrol-hybrid powertrain continues in the facelifted Auris and provides a 79g/km CO2 figure.
