Jaguar teases new XF ahead of New York debut

Date: 18 March 2015   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Jaguar has teased its second-generation XF ahead of its debut at the New York motor show next month. It is due on sale in Autumn 2015.

Little is known about the new XF, but Jaguar claimed it would set class-leading fuel economy figures of over 70mpg. It is likely to be powered by the firm's Ingenium diesel engine, which is found in the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Jaguar XE.

In the XE the 163hp 2.0-litre unit emits 99g/km of CO2 and returns 73.4mpg.

In comparison to its rivals, the most efficient Audi A6 is powered by the German firm's 190hp 2.0-litre diesel engine, which returns 64.2mpg and emits 114g/km of CO2, while the most frugal BMW 5-series is powered by a 150hp 2.0-litre diesel, which returns 62.8mpg and emits 119g/km of CO2.

Jaguar said the current XF is the firm's biggest selling car in its current product range. Last year, it was the third most popular fleet model in the executive bracket with 7352 UK registrations. In comparison, the most popular executive fleet vehicle, the Mercedes E-class achieved 15,570 registrations.

"Elegant, handsome and with proportions that imbue a great sense of integrity, the new XF will be true to the strong tradition of sporting Jaguars while being completely of its time," said Ian Callum, director of design, Jaguar.
