Seven out of the nine new models crash-tested by Euro NCAP have achieved the maximum five-star rating, its latest crash-testing report has revealed.

The other two models tested earned four-star ratings.

Volvo's XC90 large 4x4 received full marks in the crash avoidance and driver assistance tests, while Audi's Q7 large 4x4 scored an 94% adult occupancy rating and a pedestrian rating of 70%.

Volkswagen's Touran and Ford's Galaxy and S-max MPVs also earned five-star ratings thanks to all three vehicles offering at least two rear seating positions which are compliant with the i-Size standard for child restraints as standard.

The Renault Kadjar crossover and Toyota Avensis upper medium vehicle scored the maximum five-star ratings thanks to "excellent" safety performances across the board, Euro NCAP said.

Meanwhile, Mazda's CX-3 crossover achieved a four-star rating thanks to its autonomous emergency braking system only being offered as an option and with an expected low uptake.

Mitsubishi's L200 pick-up also received a four-star rating thanks to it not being fitted with an AEB system.
