Luca de Meo appointed as new Seat chairman

Date: 28 September 2015   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Seat has appointed Luca de Meo as its new chairman, replacing Jurgen Stackmann from 1 November.

De Meo is currently the vice-president of sales and marketing at Audi, while Stackmann will move to the role of vice-president of sales, marketing and aftersales at Volkswagen.

The job role changes are part of the Volkswagen Group's personnel shake-up in the wake of the ongoing emissions scandal.

De Meo has more than 20 years experience in the industry, having started his career at Renault, before moving to Toyota and then joining the Fiat Group, where he headed the Lancia, Fiat and Alfa Romeo brands.

He joined the Volkswagen Group in 2009 as head of marketing for the group before moving across to Audi in 2012.

"This new appointment doesn't change the agreed strategy or the direction of the Seat brand," said Francisco Javier Garcia Sanz, chairman of the Seat board. "We believe that the plan in place will achieve a sustainable growth for Seat in the future."

He added: "The trust of the Volkswagen Group is confirmed by the recent announcement of a 3.3 billion euro expenditure plan in R&D and installations."
