New Ford app reads out social media messages

Date: 27 October 2015   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Ford has launched an app that allows drivers to keep up to date on social media while on the move by reading out their updates.

Known as the Meople Connector app, it is available for iOS and Android devices, and will be compatible with Ford's Sync AppLink media system.

This app uses voice controls to allow motorists to connect to the app and listen to messages from social media websites, such as Twitter and LinkedIn.

After drivers are alerted to messages, they can use voice commands to listen to, answer or skip messages. If drivers want to respond to messages, they can also use pre-determined messages.

Motorists can select how often updates are received, and whether they want to send their current location to others.

"For many people today, social media is fundamental to staying up-to-date and informed," said Don Butler, executive director, connected vehicle and services at Ford.

"From a reminder that it's a friend's birthday, to hearing the minute your football team scores a goal, to breaking news, social media is part of the fabric of modern life," he added.

"By adding further news and personal communications, we are helping to ensure customers can stay seamlessly connected throughout their day in a safe and stress-free way."
