Nissan confirms 31-mile increase in Leaf range

Date: 10 September 2015   |   Author:

Nissan is introducing a new version of its electric Leaf that offers a 25% increase in range, taking it over 150 miles for the first time.

The Leaf 30kW model offers an official test range figure of 155 miles, compared with the current 24kW-powered 124 miles, and will cost an additional £1600. There's no impact on interior packaging or boot space, as the batteries are the same size, though weight increases by 21kg, with Nissan putting the battery's increased range down to "an update to its internal design and chemistry".

Nissan has also replaced its Carwings smartphone link technology with a new NissanConnect EV system that, as well as being more user-friendly and intelligent, will be able to show whether local charging points are in use, though the firm is still confirm exactly which points will be included.

The new 30kW model will only be available in the higher Acenta and Tekna trims, and not with the Visia level that will continue to be one of the three specifications in which the 24kW car is offered.
