The start point for the best source of fleet information

Over half of company car drivers think employers should service their cars, says Venson

Just under 60% (58%) of company car drivers believe it is their employer's responsibility to service cars at the appropriate times, a survey from Venson Automotive Solutions has revealed.

Venson said fleet managers should ensure drivers know what needs to be reported and where responsibilities lie in order to stay in control of costs.

Of the 200 company car drivers surveyed by the fleet management  company, just under half (48%)  don't top up water coolants when needed, while only 53% of the respondents check their vehicle's oil levels.

Two thirds (66%) check tyre pressures and inflate tyres when needed, while almost one in three drivers (28%) said they ignore warning lights on the dashboard.

"We advise firms to ensure their fleet provider has provided a clearly defined end of contract damage process so it is transparent what is acceptable," said Gil Kelly, operations director at Venson. "There should also be room for a firm to challenge their fleet provider about the cost breakdown, to ensure there are no hidden charges."

"By going into a lease with a clear understanding of the procedures regarding damage and making them clear to their drivers, businesses can stay on top of damage and/or maintenance issues, as they happen," said Kelly.
