Plug-in car registrations overtake 2014 full-year figure

Registrations of plug-in cars in 2015 have surpassed the 2014 full-year total just halfway through the year.
According to Government-backed group Go Ultra Low, the number of registrations has grown by 256% against the same period last year.
From January to June, 14,586 ultra-low emission vehicles were registered compared to 4096 registrations during the same timeframe in 2014.
An ultra-low emission vehicle must have a CO2 output of less than 75g/km and a minimum pure-electric range of 10 miles.
The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is the most popular ULEV 7255 units registered this year. Nissan follows with its Leaf racking up 2964 registrations, and the BMW i3 is the nation's third most popular ULEV with 1111 registrations between January and June this year.
"Being just six months in to 2015 and having already exceeded last year's total plug-in car registrations is testament to consumer confidence in this capable and cost-effective technology," said Hetal Shah, head of Go Ultra Low. "The year-on-year rises give us great confidence in the future of electric cars as we move towards an ultra low emission future."

Plug-in cars are green, cheap to run and benefit both families and businesses," said Transport minister Andrew Jones. "The Government is investing £500 million over the next five years to help position Britain as a world leader in the technology, supporting skilled jobs and driving economic growth."
