Simon Oliphant appointed as new BVRLA chairman

Date: 27 May 2015   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Simon Oliphant has been appointed as the new BVRLA chairman, taking over from Marshall Leasing's Peter Cakebread who has stepped down after his two-year term.

Oliphant stood as the vice-chairman for the last year.

Oliphant has worked for Hitachi Capital for the last 25 years. He has been involved with the BVRLA since joining its Leasing and Fleet Management Committee in 2001, which he went onto lead a decade later.

He also joined the Committee of Management in 2011.

Oliphant has identified areas of focus in his new position. This includes developing a stronger relationship with the Government around issues such as taxation, safety, the environment and technology.

The BVRLA also confirmed that two of its committee of management members - the association's version of a board of directors - would gain additional roles:

  • David Hosking, chief executive at Tuskerdirect, is now chairman of the BVRLA's Leasing and fleet management committee
  • Brian Swallow, vice president of rental at Enterprise Rent-A-Car, is chairman of the rental committee.
  • Robert Shaw of Europcar and Keith Allen of ARI Fleet UK made way for the two new members.

"It is great to welcome these new faces to the association, because we certainly have some challenges for them to focus on," said BVRLA chief executive, Gerry Keaney. "We are also grateful to outgoing committee members whose efforts have helped steer the BVRLA in recent years."
