TomTom speed camera warning app available on Android devices

Date: 17 November 2015   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Navigation giant TomTom has introduced its Speed Cameras app to Android devices.

The free app offers real-time fixed, mobile and average speed camera alerts. The fixed camera locations are taken from TomTom's navigation database and verified by a moderation team, while mobile speed camera positions are reported by TomTom users.

The company said that the app only provides alerts for cameras on the road that is being driven on, minimising false-alarms.

"By launching the TomTom Speed Cameras app for free, we want to welcome more drivers into the TomTom community," said Corinne Vigreux, co-founder and managing director, TomTom consumer.

"Already, 4.6m drivers are working together to report and verify speed camera locations in real time - and now all Android smartphone owners can join us to make driving a more relaxed experience," she added.

"We have focused on reducing driver stress, by designing a clean and simple app which minimises false-alarms for irrelevant cameras."
