ULEV registrations up by 366% in first quarter, says DVLA

Just over 9000 ultra low emission vehicles were registered in the first quarter of 2015, according to the latest DVLA registration figures.
The DVLA said this is a rise of 366% from the same period in 2014. During Q1 of 2014, 1789 vehicles were registered.
The Government body said that most of this increase has been due to the number of vehicles eligible for plug-in car and van grants increasing.
Just over 8500 (8561) cars and 247 vans of models that were eligible for the two Government grants were registered, up 392% on the same quarter of 2014.
Mitsubishi's Outlander PHEV was the most popular vehicle with 4596 registrations, followed by the Nissan Leaf with 1705 registrations.
The number of privately-owned ULEVs that were registered in Q1 of 2015 was 2807, up from 674 in the same quarter in 2014.
BusinessCar has contacted the DVLA for the number of Q1 ULEV registrations that went to fleets.
Meanwhile, the DVLA revealed the average CO2 emissions of cars registered in 2015 Q1 fell by 3% from Q1 in 2014 to an average figure of 122g/km.
Since 2001, the average emissions of new cars has fallen by 31%, the DVLA said.

"It's a great example of Britain leading the way in developing sustainable transport options that are affordable for everyone."
