Vauxhall confirms 94g/km Astra variant

Date: 15 April 2015   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Vauxhall has confirmed it is building a low-emission version of its Astra, which it claims is capable of achieving 78.5mpg and emits 94g/km of CO2.

It is powered by a detuned version of Vauxhall's 1.6-litre whisper diesel engine, which is available in the Insignia and Mokka. In the Astra, it produces 110hp.

Previously the most efficient Astra was the 136hp version, which emitted 99g/km of CO2 and returned 76.3mpg.

The new model is available now and is priced from £17,810 in Design speciation.

The CO2 reduction on the Astra moves it down one BIK bracket to 16%.

The Astra's key rival, the Ford Focus is available with a 105hp 1.5-litre diesel engine, which emits 88g/km of CO2 and returns 83.1mpg, however the CO2 reduction in the Astra places both models in the same 16% BIK bracket.
