Vauxhall investigates Zafira fire claims

Date: 23 October 2015   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Vauxhall has looked into a possible safety issue in its Zafira people carrier's heating and ventilation system, which has caused a number of vehicles to catch fire.

The issue relates to the second-generation Zafira, which was launched in 2005, which was recently phased out, and not the current Zafira Tourer model. It came to light after customers reported fires breaking out through the dashboard on social media.

Around 280,000 Mk2 models were sold in the UK. Vauxhall said its investigation found that a number of incidents happened thanks to previous repairs being performed incorrectly or using non-genuine parts.

"While the number of incidents is very low in proportion to the number of vehicles on the road, we take this issue very seriously and will take further action," the company said in a statement.

Vauxhall said any customers experiencing unusual characteristics with the ventilation system should contact a dealer to arrange for the vehicle to be inspected at no cost.
