Volkswagen to debut Golf GTD Estate at Geneva motor show

Date: 29 January 2015   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Volkswagen has announced its first ever Golf GTD Estate will make its debut at the Geneva motor show in March.

It is due to go on sale in June with prices and specification confirmed closer to its launch. The standard hatchback Golf GTD costs £26,015.

A 184hp 2.0-litre diesel unit will power the new model - like its hatchback sibling. Volkswagen said the estate returns 64.2mpg on the official cycle. No CO2 figures have been quoted, but the hatchback emits 109g/km CO2.

The GTD - which stands for Gran Tuismo Diesel - features the same bumpers and honeycomb grille as the hatchback model, smoked rear lights, flared sills, 17-inch alloy wheels and bi-xenon headlights. As standard. Volkswagen said these additions "reflect the car's sporty character in its exterior design."

Inside, the GTD Estate is fitted with sports seats finished in a clark tartan design, with black headliner and black pillar trim, as well as stainless steel pedal caps and a gear knob styled like a golf ball.
