VW emissions scandal: 3.0-litre diesel fitted with 'defeat device'

Current Volkswagen Group models fitted with the larger 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine may contain the now-infamous 'defeat device', installed to cheat emissions tests, American regulators have said.
Porsche, Audi and VW vehicles are included in the new investigation states America's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The EPA said at least 10,000 vehicles are believed to be affected and that the investigations are ongoing.
It claims that NOx emissions on the affected vehicles are up to nine times that of the legal limits.
"VW has once again failed its obligation to comply with the law that protects clean air for all Americans," said Cynthia Giles, assistant administrator at the EPA's enforcement unit.
The EPA identified these diesel models as containing software aimed at cheating tests:
- 2014 VW Touareg
- 2015 Porsche Cayenne
- 2016 Audi A6 Quattro; A7 Quattro, A8, A8L and Q5.
"We are surprised to learn this information. Until this notice, all of our information was that the Porsche Cayenne Diesel is fully compliant. Porsche Cars North America will cooperate fully with all relevant authorities," Porsche said in a statement.
"Volkswagen wishes to emphasize that no software has been installed in the 3.0-litre diesel power units to alter emissions characteristics in a forbidden manner," the world's largest car maker said in a statement.
VW added it is cooperating with the EPA's investigations.
