Volkswagen has confirmed that nine models will need to be retested after questions emerged about CO2 emissions of some of the manufacturers' vehicles last month.
Models affected include Euro 6 diesel variants of the Polo, Golf, Scirocco Jetta and Passat, however models from sister brands Audi, Skoda and Seat may also need to be retested.
VW claimed that no fixes to any of the cars will be required, meaning that the real-world MPG figures of the vehicles will remain the same.
"The suspicion that the fuel consumption figures of current production vehicles had been unlawfully changed was not confirmed. During internal re-measurements slight deviations were found on just nine model variants of the Volkswagen brand," the company said in a statement.
VW added that the nine affected vehicles will be reclassified by Christmas.
