BMW boosts petrol 1-series and 2-series economy

BMW has updated the 2.0-litre and 3.0-litre petrol engines fitted to its 1-series and 2-series models to provide additional power, increased economy and reduced emissions.
Most efficient of the new 2017 model year cars are the 120i and 220i variants, which return 47.1mpg (and 48.7mpg in automatic form), despite a 7hp jump in power. CO2 emissions, meanwhile, stand at 138g/km and 133g/km for the automatic. The 120i is avaialble from £23,980 with the 220i costing from £26,865.
The 125i, on the other hand, now features an automatic gearbox as standard and returns 47.9mpg, with emissions falling to 134g/km from 151g/km in the previous version, meaning a 4% drop in BIK liability. The 230i also sees a jump in economy to 44.1mpg and 47.9mpg for the automatic, with emissions of 147g/km and 134g/km respectively.
The range topping 3.0-litre models, meanwhile, have been renamed M140i and M240i (previously M135i and M235i) and gain 15hp and a dose of extra muscle at low engine speeds, while claimed economy jumps to 36.2mpg (and 39.8mpg for automatic versions) and emissions stand at 179g/km and 163g/km respectively.
Acceleration has also been improved with both models now being able to sprint to 62mph in less than five seconds. Prices for these start at £31,875 for the M140i and £35,090 for the M240i.
