BMW ranked as most popular fleet manufacturer

BMW is the UK's most popular fleet manufacturer according to a new survey.

Leasing company OSV's poll revealed that German marques make up four out of the top five manufacturers on a fleet's wish-list, with Volkswagen, Audi, Ford and Mercedes being named as the most desired fleet car makers.

BMW has also been awarded the Manufacturer of The Year accolade at the BusinessCar Awards for six years running.

OSV also claimed that a third of interviewees stated that a good company is one of main incentives for accepting a new role.

Vehicles efficiency, meanwhile, was the leading factor towards choosing a new fleet car, according to nearly half (42%) of respondents, followed by emissions (32%) and technology (28%).

"Fleet selection is a really important decision for business owners, whether they hire or buy outright. While it's clear that the type of car you have on offer to employees can affect your chances of hiring and the calibre of staff that you can attract to your company, business owners also need to consider the ongoing maintenance costs that a fleet can incur. It seems that in most Brit's eyes, the Germans still have the edge when it comes to efficiency and reliability," said OSV joint company director, Andrew Kirkley. "While there was some concern in the trade that the recent tax increase would impact upon company car uptake this season, our survey also revealed that 15% of businesses plan to spend more on fleet cars this September than ever before. This is great news for both the industry and the general economy as a whole."
