DfT consulting on increased penalties for mobile phone drivers

Date: 26 January 2016   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

The Department for Transport has launched a consultation on proposed changes to penalties for using hand-held mobile phones while driving.

The consultation is looking for feedback on proposals to increase the fixed penalty notice level to £150, while it has also been suggested the number of penalty points should be increased from three to four for non-HGV drivers and from three to six for HGV drivers.

The DfT said the proposals aim to reduce the number of deaths and injuries on the roads.
