'Entry-level' 60 and 60 D Tesla Model S variants revealed

American car maker Tesla has launched two entry-level Model S variants, which replace the 70 and 70D models, and are available to order from today.
Known as the 60 and 60D, the two new models are priced from £53,400 and £57,800 respectively, including the £4500 Government plug-in car grant - £14,500 less than the 70 and 70D - making them the most affordable Teslas until the Model 3 arrives in 2017.
According to Tesla, the 60 and 60D have a range of 248 miles (compared to a range of 292 for the discontinued 70D), a top speed of 130mph and a 0-60mph time of 5.5 seconds.
Tesla also said there is the option of upgrading the vehicles to a 75Kw battery via an over-the-air software installation.
"With the introduction of this model we are not producing any 60 kWh battery packs, a decision that is the most efficient for Tesla and allows us to pass the most flexibility and cost savings along to our customers," the firm said.
The new variants join the existing line-up of the 90D and the P90D.
