Mercedes has unveiled the most extreme version of its upper medium C-class coupe, the C43 AMG.

The first models are due to be delivered by the summer, with orders being taken in April.

The performance-orientated C43 is powered by a 367hp 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 engine, which is mated to the firm's nine-speed automatic gearbox. Emissions are rated at 183g/km of CO2 - placing it in the 33% BIK bracket - while it returns an estimated 36.2mpg.

Unlike previous performance versions of the C-class, the C43 AMG features a four-wheel drive system, however its torque distribution system is biased towards the rear wheels.

Exterior tweaks to differentiate it from other C-class coupes include a front apron with wide air intakes, chrome trim and a black louvre.

Optionally available is a 'night package' which adds dark tinted glass and a black front apron and rear diffuser.

Inside, the C43 features sports seats, red upholstery and red seatbelts, while a 4.5-inch racetimer telemetry screen completes the model's sporting pretence.

Pricing and UK specifications will be announced closer to the on-sale date.
