Seat has revealed a new crossover, aimed to go toe-to-toe with the Nissan Qasqhai and Kia Sportage.

Due in the UK from September and known as the Ateca, prices will be announced at next month's Geneva motor show, with the car on the Seat stand.

The new model will be powered by five engines from 115hp and 190hp. Diesel power is provided by a 115hp 1.6-litre motor and  2.0-litre diesel unit with 150hp and 190hp. Fuel consumption figures range from 56mpg to 66mpg, while CO2 figures are from 112g/km to 131g/km.

Two petrol units will be offered - a 115hp 1.0-litre model, which emits 112g/km of CO2 and returns 53mpg, and a 150hp 1.4-litre variant, which emits 131g/km of CO2 and returns 46mpg.

Inside, the Ateca features an eight-inch media touchscreen system, while the boot holds 510 litres in its two-wheel drive configuration and 485 litres in versions with four-wheel drive.

Technology featured in the Ateca includes traffic jam assist, which semi-autonomously controls the car at low speeds, and emergency assist, which can automatically stop the vehicle if it detects a hazard ahead and no response from the driver.

The car can also wirelessly charge smartphones, and also features Seat's Full Link media system, which incorporates MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing phone displays to be shown on the car's media system.

"Our first SUV marks the start of a new era for Seat. The Ateca is a clear development of the Leon DNA and will drive forward the success of the range. Seat is a brand on the move," said Luca de Meo, president of Seat.
