Tesla has revealed its long-awaited BMW 3-series rival, the Model 3, ahead of it going into production in 2017.
The range of the Model 3 is listed at "over 200 miles" and is thought to be around the 215 mile mark, while the Model 3 will be Supercharger compatible as standard.
The newest model in Tesla's line-up will be capable of hitting 60mph in less than six seconds from a standstill, with faster versions planned.
Tesla said the Model 3 is capable of seating five people "comfortably", while it is anticipated the car will achieve a five-star Euro NCAP rating once testing is complete.
Autopilot - Tesla's semi-autonomous driving aid - will also be offered as standard on the Model 3, while four-wheel-drive and air suspension are confirmed optional extras.
UK pricing has not been confirmed at this stage, but it will cost from $35,000 (£24.453) in America, though expect that price to rise once shipping costs are taken into account - Model S versions are generally around £5000 more expensive over here than in Tesla's homeland.
During the launch event in California, Elon Musk, Tesla's founder confirmed that the firm had taken 115,000 pre-orders for the car within the first 24 hours. To pre-order a car, buyers had to place a £1000 deposit, with several stores around the world swamped with queues, similar to those attracted to the launch of a new smartphone.
