Audi has revealed a facelifted version of its A3 lower medium model ahead of its arrival in the UK in the summer.

Changes to the A3 include new 1.0-litre three-cylinder and 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol units, the addition of Audi's digital dials, wireless phone charging - similar to the system used in our long-term A4 saloon - and an updated media system.

Six engines are available - three petrol and three diesel - with outputs ranging from 110hp to 190hp, while the 204hp A3 e-tron plug-in hybrid is retained.

New driver assistance systems include the firm's traffic jam assist feature, which works in conjunction with Audi's adaptive cruise control to keep the A3 at a safe distance from the vehicle ahead while in traffic, with the vehicle capable of steering itself at speeds of up to 40mph.

The facelifted A3 also gains the option of powerful matrix LED headlights for the first time.
