Fleet drivers swing towards green choices

Date: 07 November 2016   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Almost 700,000 company car drivers would choose an electric vehicle as their next company car if they were given the opportunity to do so by their employer, new research has revealed.

According to a survey of company car drivers by automotive green campaign, Go Ultra Low, only a quarter of businesses offer EVs to employees as company cars.

Go Ultra Low is jointly funded by the Government and the automotive industry, and aims to increase the uptake of green motoring.

Of those who are unable to go electric at the moment, seven out of 10 said they would be likely to choose an EV as their next company car if they were made available.

Meanwhile, 86% of respondents who work at a company that offers EVs said they would be likely to consider an electric vehicle next time around.

"Fleets and businesses represent the lion's share of the UK's new car buyers, so have the potential to shape the market and accelerate the UK automotive market to be entirely 'ultra-low emission'," said Poppy Welch, head of Go Ultra Low.  "As an industry, it is our collective responsibility to give businesses confidence to be bold and realise the multiple benefits that plug-in hybrid and pure electric cars can bring, including cost savings and a carbon footprint reduction."
