Ford to store summer tyres at winter 'tyre hotel'

Date: 21 October 2016   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Ford is offering to store summer tyres for fleet and retail customers who fit winter tyres to their vehicles, resolving the inconvenience of having to store tyres when not in use.

The firm's 'tyre hotel' service will store a customer's summer tyres for up to six months for £22 a tyre, though a spokesman for the company told BusinessCar this price is negotiable should customers want to store tyres for shorter periods of time.

Ford claims that more than 150 of its dealers are offering the service.

Winter tyres reduce braking distances by up to 20% when compared with summer tyres in temperatures below 7 degrees centigrade.

Fast-fitter Kwik Fit offers a similar service for £15 per tyre for six month, though the Ford spokesman told BusinessCar it is the first manufacturer to offer the service across its entire model range, including LCVs.

"Ford is responding to the demands of customers, especially those driving high-performance or all-wheel drive cars interested in the reassurance of improved tyre grip during colder weather," said Sarah Brettle, Ford's aftersales marketing manager.
