Geneva 2016: Renault Scenic to offer hybrid powertrain

Date: 01 March 2016   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Renault has confirmed its new Scenic will go on sale in the UK before the end of the year, and will also feature a diesel hybrid powertrain.

Although this isn't our first look at the French firm's MPV - it was revealed last week - this is the first time we know what will power the people-carrier.

In total, the new Scenic offers six diesel and two petrol engines, with power outputs between 95hp and 160hp.

The diesel hybrid option will consist of the 110hp diesel engine being mated to a 48-volt battery. Renault has not given any indication of how far the car will travel on battery power, but said the hybrid motor will recover energy when braking.

Efficiency figures have not yet been released for the range, butRenault claims that the hybrid powertrain will make the Scenic a class-leader in terms of fuel economy.

Inside, the centre console is able to move backwards and forwards to suit either the driver or passengers. When the centre console is in the forward position, it tucks beneath the media system screen to form a single unit, while Renault said that with the console in its rearmost position, the new Scenic is able to boast a more 'open plan' arrangement that can be shared between the driver and passengers.

Renault also confirmed it will be possible to fold back rear seats by pressing a button on the infotaiment system, thus creating a flat floor, while it will also be possible to fold the front passenger seat back to create a table.

Bootspace, meanwhile, is rated at 572 litres, and the French company claims the vehicle has 63 litres worth of storage space inside.

Safety kit includes the firm's active emergency braking system, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, a lane departure warning system, a hands-free parking device and a reversing camera.

Renault also confirmed that a new Grand Scenic will launch by the end of the year, however, will be revealed in the summer.
