A Google self-driving car crashed into a bus in California last month, it has emerged.
It is not the first time that a self-driving car has been involved in incidents but typically, up to now, other drivers have crashed into the vehicles at low speeds.
Google is set to meet with California's Department for Motor Vehicles to discuss the incident to work out where the blame lies.
Last month, the car - which was travelling at 2mph - pulled out in front of a bus, which was going at 15mph.
According to Google, the car's driver assumed the bus would slow down and let the car out of the junction, so he did not override the car's self-driving mode.
"We clearly bear some responsibility, because if our car hadn't moved, there wouldn't have been a collision," the American technology giant said in a statement. "That said, our test driver believed the bus was going to slow or stop to allow us to merge into the traffic, and that there would be sufficient space to do that."
The firm added it has tweaked the self-driving code to take into account bus movements in the future.
"From now on, our cars will more deeply understand that buses (and other large vehicles) are less likely to yield to us than other types of vehicles, and we hope to handle situations like this more gracefully in the future."
