Government publishes new VED car tax rates

Date: 18 March 2016   |   Author:

The Government has announced the latest VED car tax bands, which come into force from 1 April.

Rates remain the same for vehicles with emissions of 0/gkm to 150g/km, meaning that petrol and diesel vehicles that emit less than 100g/km will continue to be free to tax, with those emitting between 101g/km and 110g/km eligible for £20 annual tax and those with 111g/km to 120g/km emissions costing £30 per year.

Vehicles emitting between 151g/km and 225g/km, meanwhile, will see VED costs rising by £5, while the top two bands increase by £10, with the top band now standing at £515.

Costs for alternatively fuelled cars stand at £10 less than petrol and diesel equivalents respectively.
