iOS 10 Apple iPhone operating system will remember where you park your car

Date: 15 June 2016   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

The next version of Apple's mobile operating system, iOS 10, will be able to remember where you have parked your car.

Expected to be released for the iPhone 5 model and above from September, Apple Maps will know when you disconnect mobiles from the vehicle's Apple CarPlay media integration system or if you stop before you reach your home address.

The iPhone will then be capable of providing directions back to the vehicle, while the location of the car can also be updated, and more context (for example the level/car park number) can also be added to the dropped pin location marker that tells you where the vehicle is.

A parked car will also show up automatically as a recommended destination in Apple Maps, meaning a "parked car" option will show up on the Apple Maps lock screen widget if you have it enabled in iOS 10.

Apple also confirmed that third-party developers will be able to access the Apple Maps programme, opening up further possibilities for greater integration between the directions tool and manufacturer apps, such as those made by Vauxhall and Audi.

Other updates to Apple Maps in the latest operating system includes quick access to destinations along the route, such as eateries or fuel stations. The view will also zoom in or out depending on speed, location, and upcoming route.

iOS 10's public beta test opens next month.
