Kia to recall Soul and Soul EVs over possible steering fault

Date: 21 June 2016   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Kia is recalling all Soul and Soul EV vehicles built between 18 January 2014 and 30 September 2015 due to a possible fault which could cause a steering failure.

Kia said that an adhesive with insufficient bonding strength was used during assembly, which could cause a pinion plug that secures the pinion gear to the steering gear assembly to loosen. If the plug loosens sufficiently, the pinion gear may separate from the steering gear assembly, which could cause a loss of steering.

In total, 5707 vehicles in the UK are affected, and Kia said it will repair the vehicles for free. It is notifying owners via email and post, suggesting they take the vehicles to a dealer to carry out the repairs.
