Land Rover is set to introduce its most efficient Range Rover Sport yet thanks to the debut of its 240hp 2.0-litre diesel Ingenium engine, due to go on sale in the winter priced from £59,700.

Already fitted to the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque models, the Range Rover Sport's unit will return 45.6mpg and emit 164g/km of CO2, placing it in the 32% 2016/17 BIK band.

As well as the new engine, Land Rover is introducing a number of semi-autonomous features to the Range Rover Sport including an advanced tow assist function, an autonomous emergency braking tool and a driver condition monitor, the latter of which analyses steering inputs to warn the driver if signs of fatigue are detected.

Land Rover claims the advanced tow assist feature is a first-in-class deployment. It uses the car's camera system and touchscreen to allow the driver to indicate the required direction of the trailer, and the vehicle will autonomously drive itself.
