Morrisons and Tesco cuts fuel prices for second time this week

Date: 17 November 2016   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Morrisons has announced it is reducing the price of petrol and diesel sold at its 333 UK forecourts by up to 2p a litre from this afternoon.

The cut is the second price reduction this week and follows on from a 3p chop on Tuesday.

The supermarket said it is cutting its prices "to become more competitive" in the market.

"With Christmas around the corner, customers tell us that they would appreciate any help reducing their cost of fuel. This cut will mean that we are more than 5p a litre cheaper than the current UK average," said Andy Atkinson, marketing and customer director at Morrisons.

Arch-rival Tesco confirmed to BusinessCar it is also cutting the price of fuel: "We're dropping the price of our petrol and diesel by a further 1 pence per litre at all of our petrol stations," a spokesman said.
