New DVLA requirements for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea sufferers

Date: 11 January 2016   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

The DVLA has changed the minimum medical standards required by drivers who have obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) or obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS).

Those with OSA do not need to inform the DVLA about the condition, however those with OSAS, must inform the DVLA at the point of diagnosis or development of symptoms.

According to the DVLA, drivers must stop if they experience OSAS and symptoms including excessive sleepiness that are likely to impair safe driving.

The DVLA added that driving OSAS sufferers can continue driving if their symptoms have subsided.
