New Land Rover Discovery teased ahead of Paris debut

Date: 06 September 2016   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Land Rover has released a teaser image of its new Discovery large off-roader ahead of its global unveiling at the Paris motor show later this month.

The manufacturer claims the new model will "combine British desirability with an unstoppable spirit of adventure."

Powertrain and on-sale information have not been revealed at this stage, but it is likely the company will fit its 'Ingenium' 2.0-litre diesel engine into the Discovery following its recent introduction in the Range Rover Sport.

At present, the Discovery is powered by one engine - a 256hp 3.0-litre diesel unit that emits 203g/km of CO2 and returns 36.7mpg.

In the Range Rover Sport, the smaller 240hp 2.0-litre unit returns 45.6mpg and emits 164g/km of CO2, placing it in the 32% 2016/17 BIK bracket compared with a 40% bracket for the 3.0-litre unit.

The Discovery, expected to retain its seven-seat capabilities, will be going up against the likes of Audi's Q7 and the Volvo XC90.

"The new Discovery redefines the large SUV. Land Rover's design and engineering teams have revolutionised the Discovery DNA to create a highly desirable, extremely versatile and hugely capable premium SUV," said Gerry McGovern, Land Rover's chief design officer.
