New low-CO2 petrol engine joins the Skoda Octavia line-up

A new turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine is set to join the Skoda Octavia range, replacing the 1.2-litre four-cylinder powertrain in the line-up.
Headline figures for this new engine impress with CO2 emissions as low as 104g/km, largely thanks to the new engines lightweight construction. Fuel economy has also seen an 8% improvement over the previous 1.2-litre powertrain, up to an official figure of 62.8mpg combined.
Available in both the hatchback and estate versions, the new 1.0-litre petrol produces 113bhp and 200Nm of torque and is available with both manual and automatic transmissions. In combination with the firms 7-speed DSG auto gearbox, the Octavia hatchback can accelerate from 0-62mph in 9.9 seconds; the manual version is fractionally quicker and completes the same sprint in 9.6 seconds. If you'd prefer the Octavia estate, you also get the choice of both automatic and manual gearboxes; the trademark sprint is completed in 10.1 seconds or 9.8 seconds respectively.
An optional aero package is also available, which further increases efficiency and includes a lowered sport chassis, active air flaps and low-rolling resistance tyres. Fuel consumption increases to 64.2mpg and CO2 emissions drop to 102g/km as a result in both the hatchback and the estate when fitted with the manual gearbox.
Already available with the recently revised Audi A3, the new 1.0-litre petrol slots into a 17 or 18% BIK tax band, depending on the version you choose, for the current 2016/17 tax year.
Alongside the arrival of this new engine, Skoda is also offering adaptive Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) for the first time in Octavias with 148hp and above as an option. DCC makes it possible to adapt the steering and suspension depending on whether the Comfort, Normal or Sport mode has been selected.
Inside, the infotainment has also been upgraded with new features including wireless charging and wifi capabilities.
