Nissan upgrades Navara to Euro 6 engines

Date: 15 August 2016   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Nissan has upgraded its Navara pick-up's range of engines to Euro 6 diesel powertrains.

Both the 190hp and 160hp variants of the 2.3-litre diesel unit have been revised with CO2 emissions now as low as 159g/km, a reduction of 8g/km over the outgoing unit, while fuel consumption has improved to 46.3mpg, up by 1.4mpg.

As part of the changes, the Navara is now equipped with an idle stop/start system to reduce fuel consumption, while all Navara models now come with cruise control, Bluetooth, hands-free audio and a multi-function steering wheel as standard.

"The Navara is still the benchmark in the segment," Nissan's LCV boss Ponz Pandikuthira told BusinessCar earlier this year. "Number one in the segment is the aspired target, but we will not buy market share. "Our goal is to bring LCVs to a strong profitable share," he continued. "You can make marginal profit by selling many units - some competitors have bought share in the last two years and you can see that in transaction prices - and you can do that for a couple of years, but it is not sustainable."

From next month, all new light commercial vehicles must be fitted with Euro 6 engines in order to reduce pollution. The new engines are on sale now and there are no price increases over the outgoing line-up with prices starting from £18,376.
