Record first quarter for ULEV registrations

Date: 14 April 2016   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

More than 10,000 ultra-low emission vehicles were registered during the first quarter of the year, according to Go Ultra Low.

This is equivalent to 115 electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles being registered every day during the first three months of year.

According to the Government-backed consortium of green manufacturers, this represents a new high for electric car sales, which have been rising since the Plug-In Car Grant was introduced in January 2011.

Go Ultra Low has predicted that plug-in car sales this year will exceed 2015's record total of 28,188 units - greater than than the previous five years combined.

"These record figures show that hundreds of people every week are coming round to the fact that plug-in cars are cleaner, greener and cheaper to run," said transport minister, Andrew Jones.

"The UK is a world leader in the uptake of low-emission vehicles and our long-term economic plan is investing £600 million by 2020 to improve air quality, create jobs and achieve our goal of every new car and van in the UK being ultra-low emission by 2040," he added.
