Record half-year for van registrations, says SMMT

The UK's van market recorded its best-ever half-year registrations results, with 191,996 units sold between January and June, a 3.0% increase on the same period last year.
Growth in the market was fuelled by heavy vans, weighing between 2.5t and 3.5t, which increased by 12.7%.
June also marked the fifth consecutive month of growth in the LCV market, with registrations rising by 2.7% to 36,000 units.
Pick-ups (up 17.3%) also drove significant growth in the market last month, while smaller vans weighing less than 2.0-toness fell by a fifth (19.7%).
"It's been an encouraging first half for the new LCV sector and, while growth may be slower than the record levels seen last year, the market remains strong with all the signs pointing towards a healthy performance in 2016," said Mike Hawes, chief executive at SMMT. "Maintaining economic certainty for van operators will be key to the sector's ongoing success."
