Renault Koleos unmasked at Paris motor show

Date: 29 September 2016   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Renault has revealed its new Koleos large SUV at the Paris motor show ahead of its UK arrival next summer.

Set to rival the likes of the Hyundai Santa Fe, the Koleos sits above the Captur and Kadjar SUVs in the firm's range.

Engine information has not been revealed at this stage, and a Renault spokeswoman told BusinessCar details would not be released until closer to the model's on-sale date.

It is likely that the Koleos would share underpinnings with Alliance partner Nissan's X-Trail large SUV. The X-Trail is powered by two engines: a 130hp 1.6-litre and 163hp 2.0-litre diesel units.

In the two-wheel-drive X-Trail variant, the lower-powered unit emits 135g/km of CO2 and returns 55.4mpg, placing it in the 25% 2016-17 BIK band.

Renault claims the new model will offer a class-leading amount of space for passengers and that it will offer standard equipment in-line with other high-end Renaults, including the company's R-Link 2 multimedia system.

This isn't the first time the Koleos name has been used by the company. In 2008, it launched a compact SUV in the UK, but it was withdrawn in 2010 due to poor sales of fewer than 2600 units.
