Renault has confirmed it is recalling 15,000 cars worldwide fitted with its 1.5-litre 110hp diesel engine.
According to the French company, the recall will recalibrate the engine's control unit, which has been corrected on new vehicles since last September.
This engine is also fitted to several Nissan and Dacia models but there is currently no indicated that these are affected.
In light of the continuing VW scandal, Renault added that its vehicles "are not equipped with fraudulent software or systems designed to bypass the emission control system".
According to reports, the French firm is set to recall around 270 cars in the UK, mainly Capturs. BusinessCar has contacted a spokesman to clarify the number of vehicles affected, and is currently waiting for a response.
