Small SUV XC40 on Volvo radar

Date: 11 January 2016   |   Author:

Volvo has confirmed it is planning to enter the rapidly growing small SUV market with a model branded XC40.

"We haven't formally announced the XC40, but our chairman is very keen to tell everyone we're doing one," said Volvo's UK head of product and pricing Iain Howat, talking about the revisions that will see the company replace its entire product line-up by 2020, starting from the new XC90 launched in mid-2015. "There is only so much volume and growth in existing segments so we do need to look at where there is opportunity out there that we can tap into."

"A Volvo SUV in that segment would be a success," added Volvo's UK managing director Nick Connor.  "There is an obvious need for an extra-small SUV and the advantage is that it would come in with XC credentials."
