Used van values up slightly in March

Date: 12 April 2016   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

The average value of used vans sold at auction in March increased by £31 (0.5%) to £5878 when company with February - with last month being the second-highest monthly figure on record - the latest BCA Pulse report has revealed.

Year-on-year values also rose during the month - up by £263, or 4.6% compared with March 2015, with the average van in 2016 being nearly months younger and with 2400 fewer miles on the clock than a year ago.

Ex-fleet and lease vans put through auction halls during the month averaged £6726 in March, an increase of £101 (1.5%) compared with February, and the highest monthly value recorded since 2014. Year-on-year values, meanwhile, were ahead by £117 (1.7%).

Average part-exchange van values, meanwhile, were up by £47 (1.2%) to £3987 when compared with February's values, while year-on-year values were ahead by £397 (11.3%), and nearly-new van values increased by £1284 over the course of the month.

"Even with the disrupting effect of the Easter break, demand for light vans remained strong in March with trade buyers competing strongly for the best-presented stock," said BCA's LCV operations director Duncan Ward.

"Values remain exceptionally strong and well ahead of where they were a year ago, despite the poor condition of some vehicles reaching the used sector."
