The start point for the best source of fleet information

Zap Map to show live EV charging point data

Date: 15 December 2016   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Leading EV charging location website Zap Map has announced it will display live information about points.

The website will show whether charging points are in use or available for charging, and it is hoped the new data feeds will make it easier for EV owners to plan journeys.

Initially rolled out to show live data from Chargemaster stations from today, other networks will be displayed from the start of next year.

Until now, Zap Map only displayed pricing and location information for EV charging points.

At present, Zap Map shows 4,221 locations, with 6,391 points, which have 11,794 plugs in the UK, and the website plans for its iOS and Android smartphone apps to be compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto from early 2017, meaning the live data will soon be able to be displayed in-car.

"Achieving this level of data integration has required the close co-operation of network operators, and we are delighted to be rolling-out dynamic data for the key UK networks with Chargemaster being the first," said Ben Lane, director at Zap Map. "The live network data complements Zap-Chat, our peer-to-peer comms channel, which allows users to provide status updates and last-mile information.

"Taken together, the network and Zap-Chat updates give the best possible information to EV users on the move about charging point availability," he added.
