Zipcar adds 50 Golf GTEs to London car-sharing fleet

Car-sharing service Zipcar has added 50 Volkswagen Golf GTE plug-in vehicles to its London fleet.
Forty Golfs are located in the London borough of Westminster, while the remaining 10 vehicles are elsewhere within the city, such as Tower Bridge and Old Oak.
To accommodate the new vehicles, Westminster City Council has installed charging points in 40 of its car club parking bays.
According to Zipcar, one 10 UK car club members have now used an electric vehicle, up from 4% in 2014/15.
"The combination of pure electric vehicle driving in the city and full flexibility to escape anywhere in the country, without compromise, is compelling," said Mark Walker, general manager of Zipcar UK. "We believe our members will thoroughly enjoy driving this car in electric mode and will become keen advocates for electric vehicle driving in London."
The Golf GTE is available to rent for £7 an hour - the same rate as a conventional Golf.
