2018 Ford Fiesta ST shown at Geneva motor show

Date: 07 March 2017   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Ford has revealed a performance version of the UK's most registered car of 2016, the Fiesta.

Called the ST, it is powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine which produces 200hp. Although official fuel consumption figures are not available yet, Ford said it expects the model to emit 114g/km of CO2 thanks to the use of cylinder deactivation systems.

Set to be revealed at next month's Geneva motor show, the third-generation Fiesta ST will go on sale in early 2018 with both three and five-door variants being offered from launch.

The Fiesta ST is the firm's first performance-orientated model to be powered by a three-pot motor, while the model is equipped with selectable drive modes, enabling the engine, steering and stability control to be configured depending on driving conditions.

Inside, the model will feature sporty Recaro seats and a flat-bottomed steering wheel. Ford's Sync 3 infotainment system will also be offered as standard, linked to a touchscreen of up to eight inches in size, which includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.

Ford also claimed the new ST will offer more personalisation options than before, with drivers being able to choose from a range of trim options for the gear lever, steering wheel and dashboard, while a number of styling packs will also be offered.

"Our next-generation Fiesta ST is true to the philosophy of delivering cutting-edge technology to enhance every facet of the responsive chassis and powertrain," said Joe Bakaj, vice-president of product development at Ford of Europe. "With selectable drive modes and an all-new EcoBoost engine delivering an unprecedented combination of performance and fuel-efficiency, the new model will deliver the most versatile, fun, engaging and rewarding Fiesta ST driving experience yet."
